Newsletter Spring 2007-08
Reminder: Add Day is Approaching
Just a friendly
reminder that the last day for adding courses and removing
incompletes is this Friday, April 18th. Please remember
to bring your add cards to the Registrar's Office by 5:00pm on
Friday.
Getting
the word out: Broadcast Emails
REGIS offers instructors,
TAs and advisers quick and easy ways to send emails to their
students and advisees. From the Class Roll Sheets,
instructors and TAs can simply click on the "Broadcast Email
Message" links to send a message to students enrolled in a
specific section, students enrolled in a particular class, or
all students enrolled with you this term. A web form
enables you to simply type a message and send it out.
Advisers, while viewing the list of their advisees under the
Schedule Approval link, can mark the checkbox for one or several
advisees and hit the Email button to similarly send out an
email. The Email All button enables you broadcast an email
to all your advisees.
Scheduling for Maximum Benefit
The
Curriculum Committee has recommended
that 3 hour classes that normally meet Monday/Wednesday/Friday
should start on the hour. Tuesday/Thursday classes in 90 minute
sessions should start at 9, 10:30, 1 or 2:30. Instructors should try to avoid
classes
starting Tuesday or Thursday at 10 or 2.
Oral and Written Communication Requirement
The Institute Requirements for
Undergraduates include a
scientific writing course while options
requirements include an
oral communication course. The Institute requirement can
be satisfied by taking an appropriate course offered by any
division, or by taking En 84. For many options, students can choose the oral
communication course listed within their department or any of
the equivalent courses listed under the Oral column below.

Keep Connected with your Cell Phone
Be sure to add/update your mobile phone number
under My Personal Information in
access.caltech.
In the event of fire, earthquake, or other emergency, Caltech's
notification system will send a voice message and SMS (Short
Message Service) text message to your mobile phone. SMS is
often more reliable when call volume is high. Check with
your mobile provider to verify if your plan and phone have text
message capability.
